Home Assistant

If the newly released Jellyfin app for my television works well, I’ll likely retire my raspberrypi as a media player and re-use it for a different purpose.
About a month ago, I decided to finally give Home Assistant a try, and figured it would be a good use-case for the raspberrypi.
I don’t really have any notes, except that I missed the mention of the “shell” subcommand in the console, because it’s not listed with the other commands in `ha help`. I just need to learn to read, I suppose.
I needed the “shell” function because the default “.local” URL wasn’t magically accessible from other machines (which, given my network configurations, I expected and prefer).
Other than that, it seems to be doing what it’s supposed to, and seems to be doing it well.
Going forward, I want to be more conscious about which IoT devices enter my home to ensure they don’t require talking to third-party services and can work in an air-gapped environment.
I tend to use my devices until they either die or stop getting security updates so it might take a little while before my current devices get replaced.
